It shouldn’t be hard to speak to a human when you need support for products you use, but more and more companies large and small are making it difficult to access a live person when you need help. Wait times to speak to a person are long. Even when you get access to a voice, chances are it's a chatbot. Contact numbers are hard to find and in a lot of instances, there is only an online chat to talk to a representative. In a day and age when many technology products become increasingly hard and the increase of people who need to talk to a live person to retrieve email and social media passwords as well as people who need to reclaim stolen social media accounts, it is a nightmare. There is still hope. Here are some tips you can use to get in contact with a live person.
Call the sales department. If you are struggling with a product and need tech support, call the sales department. There are live people who work tech support, but many companies want to weed out the people calling for common solutions like "failing to turn off and on their tech devices". These companies figure they can save on manpower having scripted AT Chatbots read these solutions on the phone. If you call sales, you have a better chance of being transferred to a live person.
Hit that Zero button. Call centers are still set up to allow you to hit that Zero button on your phone to get a live person. Yes, it may only be a live operator, but talking to a real person is better than going to battle with a non-feeling chatbot who can sympathize with the technical issues you're dealing with.
Only purchase products from companies that have live support. When it comes to talking to someone when you have technical issues, Dell and Apple are two of the best companies out there. They have numbers that are easy to find, you only have a few prompts to go through before you are in line to talk to a person. More importantly, they are trained to solve most common issues, before you are transferred to a higher level of support. As of the publication of this article, Microsoft, Google, and all social media companies are among the worst for tech support. They use a ticketing system which means you need to log into your account to set up a tech support interaction. Then you have to sit by your phone to wait for someone to call you back. Annoying.
Get yourself a computer hero. This isn't always a failsafe, but calling a local computer repair and IT services company is a great option to get those tech support questions answered (this isn't a sales pitch for you to call Integral). Notice I'm not mentioning Best Buy's Geek Squad because they fall under the same category as other companies who use Chatbots. Also, many local tech guys suck at calling customers back. Ask around your company and find out who has a live person answering their phones. It may cost you a little, but in today's digital world, if you can find a computer hero who is only a phone call away, you better hold on to them for dear life. If you need a computer hero, I know a guy!
Timing is everything. The early bird gets the worm, and that is the same with calling tech support. First thing in the morning is the best time to reach out to avoid long hold times. Also, call Tuesday, Wednesdays, and Thursdays as these are the best days to call and immediately get support.

It's tempting to use Uncle Google to look up tech support numbers, but criminals will frequently take advantage of the Google Ads feature to take advantage of unsuspecting people to create bogus ads for legitimate companies with numbers to get them to fall for tech support scams.
